Hi! I'm Christina Edstrom, a DONA-trained birth doula and a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor. I have a BA in Psychology and Human Services from the University of MN, Morris and a Postgraduate degree in Counseling from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Before starting birth work, I worked in the mental health field and loved it. After my first baby was born (that little lady in the picture above!), I felt drawn to support people during pregnancy, labor, and beyond. I love working with people as they start or add to their families!
I have two children, and their birth and breastfeeding stories are very different. I had a cesarean birth with my daughter, and a wonderful VBAC with my son. My husband and I had the loving support of an awesome doula with our second baby, and her calm, supportive presence made all the difference in the world. I felt listened to, informed, and important. My own experiences in birth, the families I've served, the education I've received, and many other facets of my life have shaped the doula I have become.
It is so important to me, as a doula and a lactation counselor, to honor people's choices, their unique circumstances and experiences, and to make sure that they feel as though they have been heard during their pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period. I love it when my families feel as though they have a friend in the delivery room--a friend who just happens to know a lot about keeping a laboring mom calm and comfortable. There is nothing more exciting and inspiring to me than being invited into my families' lives as they prepare for their baby's birth and start their breastfeeding relationships, if they choose this.
Thanks for getting to know me a little bit more! I'd love to chat more, if you have questions. Please feel free to email me at christinathedoulaMN@gmail.com.
